In 1984
 November 14
The Ministry of Civil Affairs and SOS KDI(KINDERDORF INTERNATIONAL)
signed a cooperation agreement to establish SOS Children’s Villages
in China. Dr. Hermann Gmeiner ( the founder and the former president
of SOS KDI), Mr. Helmut Kutin(the president and former KDI head for
Asian region), Mr. George Arvay (in charge of SOS Children’s Village
Friendship Association in U.S.A, and USCFA in Sarasata) present at
the signing ceremony.
Mid-November
The grand foundation stone-laying ceremony of Yantai SOS Children’s
Village was held with participation of SOS KDI President Hermann Gmeiner’s
five-person party including SOS KDI head for Asian region Mr. Helmut
Kutin. Dr. Hermann Gmeiner, Helmut Kutin, Yantai Mayor Dong Chuanzhou
and Director of Civil Affairs Bureau of Yantai Li Renpu hilled up
the foundation stone for Yantai SOS Children’s Village.
November 23
The grand foundation stone-laying ceremony for Tianjin SOS Children’s
Village was held with participation of SOS KDI President Hermann Gmeiner’s
five-person party.
In 1985
April 16-24
Head for Asian region of SOS KDI Helmut Kutin inspected the construction
sites for SOS Children’s Villages in Tianjin and Yantai and studied
the preparations for the construction.
May 6
China Association for SOS Children’s Village was officially established
with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
June 10
China Association for SOS Children’s Village, approved by Chinese
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SOS KDI, was admitted into SOS KDI
as a full member.
August 21-23
Chaired by Secretary General Wu Jingsong, the first council session
of China Association for SOS Children’s Village was held in Beijing.
In 1986
May 12
Under an agreement signed by the Chinese Ministry of Civil Affairs
and SOS KDI, SOS KDI Beijing office in charge of coordinating the
work between SOS KDI and China’s SOS Children’s Villages was formally
set up.
Mid-May
Distressed to learn the passing away of SOS KDI founder Hermann Gmeiner,
China Association for SOS Children’s Villages, Tianjin SOS Children’s
Village and Yantai SOS Children’s Village respectively sent messages
of condolence to the SOS KDI, expressing their heartfelt condolences.
In 1987
May 20
A seven-person SOS KDI delegation headed by President Helmut Kutin
attended the grand inauguration ceremony for Tianjin SOS Children’s
Village.
May 22
The completion ceremony for Yantai SOS Children’s Village was held
with attendance of a seven-person SOS KDI delegation headed by President
Helmut Kutin.
In 1988
March 4-6
The 2nd council session of China Association for SOS Children’s Village,
chaired by Secretary General Wu Jingsong, was held in Yantai.
June 8-12
A three-person delegation of China Association for SOS Children’s
village headed by Chairman Jiang Yiman of the association flew to
Austria for the 14th SOS KDI World Conference.
In 1989
March 8-12
SOS KDI President Helmut Kutin and his assistant Richard Pichler,
accompanied by Secretary General of China Association for SOS Children’s
Village Wu Jingsong, inspected Tianjin SOS Children’s Village and
Yantai SOS Children’s Village.
May 8
Vice-Minister of Civil Affairs Zhang Dejiang, accompanied by Director
Teng Weizhong and Deputy-Director Bao Shouqing of the Bureau of Civil
Affairs of Yantai, inspected Yantai SOS Children’s Village, seeing
mothers and children in the village.
In 1990
November 9-11
The 3rd council session of China Association for SOS Children’s Village
was held in Qiqihar.
In 1991
January 14
Zhu Lin, wife of Premier Li Peng, inspected Tianjin SOS Children’s
Village and inscribed for the children’s village: “ May all mothers
and children in the children’s village live a beautiful life.”
April 27
A grand foundation stone laying ceremony for Yantai Hermann Gmeiner
Middle School, funded by the SOS KDI, was held with the attendance
of deputy director of the Civil Affairs Department of Shandong Province
Sun Jianjun, Vice-Mayor of Yantai Zhou Xunde, secretary of Fushan
District Committee of the CPC of Yantai Liu Tongzhan and head of the
district Lu Zaimo.
In 1992
March 2-5
Chaired by Secretary General Shi Guoshan, the 4th council session
of China Association for SOS Children’s Village opened in Yantai,
during which Chairman of the association Wu Jingsong delivered a speech
on the development of the SOS Children’Village opened in Yantai.
